Hey there... my name is Mike; pleased to meet you. You've just found my little corner of cyberspace. This site is undergoing a major overhaul; my current personal home page is here.
About The Server Hosting This SiteThe JustBrewit.net web server started out in 2003 as an AMD K6-III+ based PC that lived on the floor of my home office, next to my desk; as of June 2005 it was upgraded to an AMD Athlon XP 1800+; in March of 2009 it was upgraded again to an AMD Athlon X2 4800+; and (finally) in September of 2011 it was upgraded to an AMD Phenom 9550, when the Athlon X2 system unexpectedly died (looks like a bad motherboard). This server runs 100% free (Open Source) software, and is connected to the outside world through a Speakeasy.net broadband connection.
I originally
built this server for three reasons: 1) to get hands-on experience
working with Linux, Apache, and other Open Source software; 2) to put
some unused computer parts to good use (all spare CPU cycles on this
server are being donated to the Folding@home
distributed computing project); and 3) because I wanted a server I
could
use for several pet projects that I really needed to host myself.
